Softball Downs Akron In Winthrop Invitational Opener

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Sophomore Keli Harrell tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead East Carolina to a 2-1 win over Akron at the Winthrop Invitational on Friday. Harrell (13-4) struck out seven batters, to earn her 13th win of the season.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Beth Nolan drove in the game-winning run. Nolan finished 1-for-3 at the plate as the Pirates collected six total hits.
East Carolina also defeated Charleston Southern 7-5.
The Pirates continue torunament play with games against Gardner Webb and East Tennessee State on Saturday.
