
Softball Wins Winthrop Invitational

ECU trailed 4-3 in the fifth of the title game before senior Kate Manuse hit a solo home run to tie the game. Manuse finished the game with two hits as did Jessup and newcomer Beth Nolan. Jessup drove a run, while Nolan plated two runs.
In the semifinals against Winthrop, sophomore Keli Harrell tossed a three-hit shutout to propel the Pirates into the title game. Harrell struck out eight Eagles en route to her 14th win of the season. Harrell earned her 15th victory in the title game against CofC.
Jessup was named the tournament's MVP and junior Stephanie Hayes was voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher. Manuse was also named to the all-tournament team.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday with a Conference USA doubleheader against UAB in Birmingham.
