
Softball Teams Downs UAB In Series Finale, 8-3

The Blazers (12-19, 1-2 C-USA) won the first game between the teams, 3-1, on Tuesday but then dropped consecutive 8-3 decisions to the Pirates, who improved to 32-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
UAB starting pitcher Amanda Antonovich fell to 3-7 this season with the loss, as she allowed eight runs, six earned, and 10 hits in seven innings of work. The freshman left-hander walked a pair and struck out three. ECU's starter Kelli Harrell picked up the win as she scattered seven hits in her seven innings of work and allowed three runs. She walked just two and struck out eight.
East Carolina jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after its first at-bat, as Leigh Savoy drilled a two-run home run to center off of Antonovich to score Krista Jessup and put the Pirates up a pair. UAB cut ECU's lead in half in the bottom of the first as Kris Lara lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Lindsay Stanley.
The teams traded single runs in the fourth but then the Pirates erupted for four in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Jessup had an RBI double and then Erin St. Ledger hit a two-run homer to highlight the inning. The Pirates added a run in the sixth as Kate Manuse collected a sacrifice fly.
