
Pirates Split on Day Two of Hampton Inn Pirate Clash

ECU (21-3), scored six runs in the first contest behind the hitting of senior Kate Manuse. Manuse was 3-for-3 with a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning and a two-RBI double in the fifth. Senior Shirley Burleson and junior Krista Jessup added RBI singles in the fifth and seventh respectively. Junior Brently Bridgeforth (5-0) got the win for the Pirates giving up three runs on six hits and five walks in 6 2/3 innings of work. Sophomore Keli Harrell recorded her first save of the season.
Freshman Rachel Foldon led the Herd going 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning and a RBI single in the seventh. Sophomore Amanda Luers (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk.
The Pirates dropped the second game of the day to Princeton, 3-0. The Tigers (4-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer by Melissa Finley. Finley led the Tigers going 3-for-4. Lauren Beirman added the third run with an RBI single in the second. Calli Varner (2-0) picked up the win for the Tigers, giving up no runs on five hits and one walk. Harrell (10-3) took the loss for the Pirates.
The Pirates will be back in action Sunday in the championship round of the Hampton Inn Pirate Clash. The schedule and seedings will be determined at the conclusion of play today.
