Davenport Leads East Carolina At Spec Towns Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- Senior Terri Davenport established a new East Carolina outdoor record and met NCAA East Region qualification standards in the 200-meter dash to highlight the Lady Pirates' efforts at the 28th Annual Spec Towns Invitational on the University of Georgia campus Saturday.
Davenport was clocked at 23.82 in the event, earning a first-place finish while also besting her previous record of 23.90 set in 2003 and surpassing the NCAA qualification standard of 23.96. Freshman Erica Montgomery stood 10th with a personal-best time of 24.77 while Jenee Moore was 22nd (25.65).
Freshman Portia Baker headlined ECU's other track performances with a fifth-place standing in the 400-meter dash (personal-best 55.06) while freshman Aisha Bilal-Mack earned a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.84. Senior Nicole Callaham topped a pair of career-bests with a 1:04.74 clip (eighth) in the 400-meter hurdles and a 14.15 mark in the 100-meter hurdles (12th).
Additional personal-bests were turned in by junior Simone Baptist (400-meter dash/14th/57.64), Mongomery (100-meter daqsh/11th/12.18) and freshman Hayley Flynn (3,000-meter steeplechase/8th/12:53.55).
Sophomore Lindsey Rosales and senior Alisha Hopkins paced the Lady Pirates in the field events, logging a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (3.65 meters) and fifth-place standing in the long jump with a leap of 5.79, respectively. Freshman Amy Hart matched her personal-best with a 3.50-meter effort in the pole vault to stand eighth while junior Chelsea Salisbury led all throwers, finishing seventh in the javelin (38.84) and fourth in the hammer (48.07).
The East Carolina men's and women's track programs will both participate at the prestigious three-day Penn Relays in Philadelphia beginning Thursday.
