
Cotto Does Not Advance at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif . -- East Carolina junior Hector Cotto came up short in his attempt to reach the semifinal round of the 110-meter hurdles event at the 2005 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track Championships Wednesday night at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
Cotto, who earned qualification to the championships by recording a time of 13.84 during a fourth-place finish at the NCAA East Regionals in New York two weeks ago, stood seventh in one of four preliminary heats with a time of 14.20. A total of 18 athletes advanced to the semis after besting the cut-off mark of 14.13.
The Pirates' only other participant at the NCAA Championships, senior B.J. Henderson, will compete in the 200-meter sprint Thursday. Henderson will engage in a prelim heat beginning at 8:10 p.m. (ET) trying to qualify for a semifinal race scheduled for 10:05 (ET).
