SACRAMENTO, Calif . -- After posting a qualifying mark of 20.70 in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash, East Carolina senior B.J. Henderson's collegiate career came to an end in a semifinal heat later Thursday night at the 2005 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
Henderson, who was one of 18 athletes to advance earlier Thursday after a fifth-place finish in one of four prelim races, could not match his effort during the semifinals. He stood ninth while competing in one of two heats with a time of 20.92, but did not rank among the top nine overall finishers which earned automatic qualification into Saturday's finals.
Henderson's prelim time of 20.70 was just .06 off his personal-record of 20.64 which was set during a fourth-place finish at the NCAA East Regionals in New York two weeks ago.
