Swimming And Diving Teams Defeat Towson To Remain Unbeaten

TOWSON, Md. -The East Carolina swimming and diving teams swept their second meet in as many days as both the men and women's teams defeated Towson in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Burdick Pool.
Junior Rebecca Perry (Greenville, N.C.) won a pair of individual events and swam the anchor leg in the 400-medley relay as ECU (5-0) extended its win streak to five straight meets with a 158-81 non-conference women's swimming and diving victory over the Tigers (3-1).
Perry took first place in the 50-free with a time of :24.11 while earning a victory in the 100-free by touching the wall in :52.23. She also swam the anchor leg of the Pirates' victorious 400-medley relay team, which finished with a mark of 3:55.53.
Junior Megan Pulaski (Greenville, N.C.) also won a pair of events for the Pirates, finishing first in the 1000-free (10:37.05) and the 500-free (5:06.94).
The Tigers were led by sophomore Jennie Katch (North Penn H.S./Lansdale, Pa.), who finished first in the three-meter diving event with a score of 212.55 points. Freshman Jennifer Sullivan (Gates Chili H.S./Rochester, N.Y.) took first place in the 200-breaststroke by earning a time of 2:33.60.
The Lady Pirates earned first place in 10 of the 13 events to win the meet.
"We swam very well today, especially with this being our second meet of the weekend," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "It was a great team effort and we're very excited to come away from the weekend still unbeaten."
On the men's side, junior Ryan Hunt (Rancocas Valley Regional H.S./Eastampton, N.J.) swept both diving events to lead the Pirates (4-0) to a 135-108 victory over the Tigers (2-2).
Hunt finished first in the three-meter diving event with a score of 290.40 points while taking the win on the one-meter board with 295.28 points. Freshman Blake Briese (Texas Tech H.S./Snellville, Ga.) earned first place in the 500-free (4:48.45) while freshman Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) earned a win in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:11.06 and the 200-individual medley with a mark of 1:57.40.
Sophomore Eric Pinno (Leonardtown H.S./California, Md.) led the Tigers in the loss by finishing first in the 50-free with a time of :21.56 while registering a mark of :47.77 to win the 100-free event. Sophomore Ryan Godfrey (Anderson H.S./Anderson, Ind.) finished first in the 1000-free with a time of 9:54.88 while senior Chris Will took first place in the 200-free by touching the wall in 1:44.22.
ECU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 4, as the Pirates will face Duquesne, Marshall and West Virginia.
