DALLAS, TEXAS - The East Carolina Women's Soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament to Memphis in double overtime 2-1. Kylie Hayes scored the game winner off a corner kick in the 104th minute of play on the assist by Jo Halley Sullivan
Blair Heffner got the scoring started for the Pirates when she gave them the early 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game. The goal by Heffner was her second on the season and she was assisted by Jessica Swanson. Memphis would go on to tie the game at 13:22 on a goal by Geneil Newbern.
"Our girls played their hearts out tonight and I am really proud of them", said head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "During overtime we had a lot of chances to score. I think what helped Memphis the most was their depth."
The Pirates had won four of their last five games heading into the C-USA Tournament to earn the sixth seed.
