IRVING, Texas - East Carolina junior Keli Harrell was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Harrell guided the Pirates to a 4-2 week, including a win over No. 6 California.
Harrell, who shared the league's pitching honor on Feb. 13 with Houston's Angel Shamblin, won the award outright this week after picking up a pair of wins and a save in five appearances, which included a nine-inning, no-hitter against Kent State. The righthander equaled her career-high of 13 strikeouts twice last week. The first came in a 1-0 loss to North Carolina State on Wednesday with the second coming in her second career no-hitter against the Golden Flashes.
The junior picked up her second save of the season in the Pirates' 8-3 win over the sixth-ranked Golden Bears after logging two scoreless innings. For the week, Harrell allowed just one earned run in 26.2 innings of work and struck out 36. She now stands third on the C-USA list for career strikeouts with 658.
