
Mens 4x100 Relay Team Qualifies For Regional Final

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The East Carolina 4x100 relay team of senior DeAndre Hyman and freshmen Jerek Hewett, David Rucker and Kevin Thompson earned a spot in the regional final on Saturday by posting the fourth fastest preliminary time (39.83) here Friday on the opening day of the NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championships.
All events are being held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University.
Senior Hector Cotto also advanced to Saturday's final in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.91.
ECU junior Eric Frasure reached the finals of the hammer throw, where he placed ninth with a heave of 60.35 meters. Teammate Terrance Myers failed to reach the finals as he fouled on each of his preliminary throws.
Hewett put his individual speed on display in the 100-meter dash, but also failed to reach the finals posting a time of 10.57 to place 12th overall.
Hewett's classmate Akintunde Abisogun also recorded a 12th place finish in the long jump. Despite recording his second longest jump of the season, Abisogun missed the final with a leap of 7.24 meters.
On the women's side, neither senior Terri Davenport nor sophomore Chante Sessoms qualified for Saturday's final in their respective events. Davenport placed 23rd in the 200-meter race with a time of 24.70, while Sessoms registered a 24th place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.88 meters.
In addition to the men's 4x100 team competing in the finals on Saturday, Chelsea Salisbury will be competing in the women's hammer throw as well.
