Cotto, Pirate Relay Team Advances To National Championship Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The East Carolina foursome of senior DeAndre Hyman and freshman Jerek Hewett, David Rucker and Kevin Thompson registered a season-best time of 39.88 in the 4x100 relay, earning a third place finish and a spot in the NCAA National Championships here Saturday during the NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championship final.
The NCAA National Championships are scheduled for June 7-10 at Sacramento, Calif.
Florida State won the event with a time of 38.90 followed by Clemson with a mark of 39.76. Georgia was another NCAA Championship qualifier, placing fourth, registering a time of 40.05.
Also qualifying for the national championship meet was senior Hector Cotto. Cotto placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with an ECU record time of 13.66, breaking his own school mark of 13.78.
Junior Chelsea Salisbury was the lone woman to compete for ECU on the final day of competition. Salisbury placed 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.99 meters.
