
Lady Pirates Shutout Western Carolina 2-0

Cullowhee, N.C. - For the second straight game, the Lady Pirates shutout their opponent. On Friday night, ECU (2-1-0) got goals by freshman Sarah Kirkley and Kami York-Feirn, en route to a 2-0 defeat over the Western Carolina Catamounts (0-3-0).
Freshman Jessica Swanson and sophomore Blair Heffner each got an assist in the game. The assist by Swanson was her third point of the season, tying her with Kami-York Feirn. The assist by Heffner was her first point of the season and second assist of her collegiate career.
"Tonight's game was a real grind on the field and we played a very competitive team in Western Carolina", said Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth. "Our defense really stood out tonight. I think this being the second year our backs have been together it has given them added chemistry on the field."
Starting in net for the third consecutive game was Amber Campbell. Campbell has now allowed one goal in 265:48. The lone goal she allowed occurred during the overtime 1-0 loss to Old Dominion in the first game of the season.
These two teams have played each other four times with ECU holding a 3-1 advantage. ECU won the last time these teams played each other 2-0. This was the first time between East Carolina and Western Carolina that the road team won.
After playing three straight road contests, East Carolina will travel home to Bunting Field to play UNC Charlotte (2-0-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. In five career contests between the two, ECU has yet to defeat Charlotte.
Of Note: After three games of play, the freshman players on ECU have been credited with five of the six goals scored. In addition, three out of the five assists that have been recorded have been credited to freshman. The Lady Pirates have now outscored their opponents 6-0 during the second half of the games.
