Lady Pirates Ranked 14th In Southeast Region

GREENVILLE, N.C. - After starting the season 3-1, the East Carolina women's soccer team has received national recognition both as a team and for an individual. With three straight shutouts against in-state opponents Campbell, Western Carolina and Charlotte, the Pirates are ranked 14th in the Southeast Region according to Soccer Buzz, the exclusive collegiate publication for women's soccer.
The ranking is the highest for ECU since 1999, when they were ranked 10th going into the final week of the season. That team would go on to finish 11-5.
Florida State (3-0), is currently ranked first in the Southeast Region followed by North Carolina (4-1), Duke (3-1), Florida (2-1-1) and Wake Forest (3-1). Charlotte (2-1-1,13th) and N.C. State (3-0-1, 15th) round out the six North Carolina schools ranking in the top-15.
East Carolina defender Nicole Moore was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team Of The Week, which is the first time in ECU history.
The Pirates have scored eight goals this season, all being accounted for by eight different players, five of them being freshmen. ECU has also yet to allow a goal during regulation in all four of their contests. Goalkeeper Amber Campbell has played in all but 17 minutes of one game, tallying two shutouts and combining with Jen Kurowicki on the third.
The Lady Pirates will be traveling to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in the N.C. State Tournament to face American and Georgia State before returning home to play UNC Wilmington on Sept. 15.
