Swimming & Diving Drops Dual Meet To Virginia Tech

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams each dropped their second dual meet of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Virginia Tech at Minges Natatorium.
The loss dropped the Lady Pirates to 8-2 overall after suffering a 153-93 defeat, while the men's squad fell to 7-2 with a 131-98 loss. The Hokies women's team improved to 6-2 and the men's team improved to 5-2.
"We had a really good meet today coming off a tough training trip to Florida over the holidays," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "This is the type pf meet that will help prepare us for the conference championships."
ECU junior Megan Pulaski continued her domination of the distance freestyle events, claiming a pair of first place finishes. Pulaski finished nearly six seconds ahead of her nearest competitor in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:19.52. Her victory in the 500-yard freestyle was slightly closer, winning by jut over two seconds with a time of 5:02.49.
Fellow junior Rebecca Perry captured first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time 58.14, less than a second ahead of second place finisher Kelly deMarrias of Virginia Tech (58.78).
Freshmen Jeffrey Miller and Kristian Ramkvist each recorded a first place for the ECU men's team. Miller won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.03, while Ramkvist claimed first place honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 58.91.
Junior divers Peter Bradyhouse and Christie Icenhower each earned a first place finish on the three-meter boards. Bradyhouse posted a score of 222.15, while Icenhower tallied a score of 276.07.
ECU returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, January 14, against UNC Wilmington. The meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at Minges Natatorium.
