Swimming And Diving Splits Dual Meet With UNC Wilmington

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Just one day after suffering only its second setback of the season, the East Carolina women's swimming and diving team posted a 158-85 win over UNC Wilmington here Sunday to improve to 9-2 this season.
The Seahawks claimed a 129-108 victory during the men's meet as the Pirates dropped to 7-3 overall.
Junior diver Christie Icenhower set the ECU varsity record on the three-meter board with a score of 332.40, breaking her own school record of 296.10 set against UNCW in 2005. She also claimed top honors on the one-meter board this afternoon with a score of 263.70.
The Lady Pirates won 11 of 13 events, claiming the top two places in five events and the top three finishers in a pair of events.
Junior Megan Pulaski and Rebecca Perry were also multiple event winners. Pulaski placed first in both the 500 (5:06.86) and 1,000-yard (10:21.95) freestyle, while Perry earned first place finishes in the 50 (23.58) and 100-yard (52.09) freestyle.
Seniors Kate Gordon and Jennie Meade were also individual winners. Gordon won the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.56), while Meade swam the fastest 200-yard freestyle time of the day (1:56.02). Junior EC Moore won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.18.
The Lady Pirates also won both relay events.
Freshman Kristian Ramkvist won a pair of events on the men's side. Ramkvist placed first in both the 200 IM (1:55.86) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.39). Fellow freshman Blake Briese finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.06.
Junior Greg Neville was the lone Pirate upper classman to win an individual event, touching first in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.99).
ECU returns to dual meet competition Saturday, January 20, against UMBC. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Minges Natatorium.
