
Swimming & Diving Teams Open Season With Win Over Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. --- The East Carolina men and women's swimming & diving teams each opened the season with a victory over Davidson on Saturday. The men's team posted a 205-91 win, while the ladies team recorded a 184-116 victory.
"We had some outstanding performances today," said Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "This was great way to start off the season and I'm very pleased with how fast we swam."
Junior Amanda Duncan claimed first place both the 100 and 200-yard butterlfy events as did freshman Thiago Cavalcanti in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle.
The ECU freshmen duo of Tommy Ryan and Stephanie Harper claimed first place in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke as did the senior diving combination of Ryan Hunt and Christie Icenhower on the one and three-meter boards.
Freshman Matthew Saccurato was also a multiple-event winner recording first place finishes in both the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM.
Other ECU first place finishers included: Alli Miller (100 back), Rachel Blue (200 free), Jason Guzewich (50 free), Jenna Stewart (100 free), Rebecca Perry (200 back), Andrew Stoker (100 fly) and Jackie Jones (200 IM).
ECU will host its first home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Minges Natatorium. The Pirates will welcome NC State and William & Mary for a tri-met beginning at 12 p.m.
