IRVING, Texas - After helping East Carolina defeat both N.C. State and William & Mary over the weekend in convincing fashion, the Pirates' Amanda Duncan and Christie Icenhower claim this week's Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, respectively. Duncan won both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Icenhower is now 4-0 in her dual meet events this year after winning both the 1- and 3-meter events. Her scores also qualified her for the NCAA Regional meet.
Duncan helped her team defeat N.C. State and William & Mary to improve to 3-0 on the year when she won the 100-yard butterfly (56.29), 200-yard butterfly (2:04.22) and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:46.24) in the Pirates dual meet last weekend. The relay time broke a 15-year old Minges Natatorium record. The junior currently has the fastest times in the conference in both fly events. This is Duncan's first career weekly C-USA swimming honor.
Icenhower improved to 4-0 in dual meet diving competition after winning both the 1- and 3-meter events in the Pirates' dual meet with N.C. State and William & Mary. The senior tallied 259.30 points on the 1-meter board and then scored 308.40 on the three-meter board. Her scores also qualified her for the NCAA Regional meet. The weekly award is the fifth of Icenhower's career, her first honor in 2007-08.
