GREENVILLE, N.C. -The East Carolina women's golf team claimed its third tournament title of the fall season after carding a 54-hole score of 906 at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. The event was being played at the par-72, 5,933-yard Oak Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Pirates (46-14), who led the tournament wire-to-wire, opened with a first round score of 308, fired a 295 in the second round and closed out with a 303 for their third title in four events this season.
Freshman Amber Littman claimed her second top five placement of the season after shooting a four-over par 220 (77-73-70) for a third place finish. Sophomore's Abby Bools (232) and Ana Maria Puche (235) finished tied for 26th and 34th respectively, while freshman Colleen Estes took a share of 57th with a score of 241.
"I'm really excited about this win today," said Head Coach Kevin Williams. "This title is huge in that it validates our national ranking (No. 22), gives our team more confidence and helps them understand how to handle winning."
J.C. Stevenson (216) of Nebraska took home individual honors with a one-stroke win over Kansas State's Michelle Regan (217).
The Pirates will close out the fall season next Monday, Nov. 5 when they travel to Golf Shores, Ala. to participate in the UAB Fall Beach Classic.
