The East Carolina swimming and diving teams concluded fall semester competition over the weekend at the prestigious Nike Cup in Chapel Hill. There were more than 50 finals performances by the Pirates during the event highlighted by senior Christie Icenhower's individual championship performance.
Icenhower took home first place honors in the three-meter diving events by setting a new ECU varsity record with a score of 336.65. Icenhower has qualified for the NCAA Zone Regional Championships for a third consecutive season.
The 200-yard free relay team of Rebecca Perry, Jenna Stewart, Amanda Duncan and Alli Miller set a varsity record at the event as well with a time of 1:34.69.
Perry has also made her NCAA `B" time in 100-yard freestyle over the weekend. She previously registered a 'B" cut in the 50-yard freestyle earlier in the year against Towson.
Also earlier during the year, Stephanie Harper joined Perry, Duncan and Stewart in setting a Minges Natatorium record in the 200-yard medley relay in a tri-meet against NC State and William & Mary. Rachel Blue and Katlin Potts teamed with Perry and Duncan to establish a new site record in the 200-yard free relay versus Towson.
The women's team posted a 6-0 dual meet record during the semester with the men's team suffering just one defeat.
The men's team recorded a record of 5-1 during the first two months of the season to ensure itself of an ECU record 25th consecutive non-losing season.
The Pirates had 11 performances ranked among the NCAA's top 100 during the fall semester, eight by the women's team and three from the men's squad.
East Carolina returns to dual meet competition against UMBC on January 19. The Pirates host their next dual meet at Minges Natatorium on January 26 against Duke.
