
Pirates Take Three Of Five In FAU Classic

BOCA RATON, FLA. - The ECU Softball Team won their last three games of the FAU Dunkin' Donuts Classic, ending by defeating St. John's 11-0 in five innings at the FAU Softball Stadium.
The Pirates jumped out to a five-run lead in the first inning before St. John's registered an out. Kaui Tom hit her first home run; a two-run shot scoring Charina Sumner who had tripled to start the game. After a single and a walk, Jessica Johnson delivered a double to right center field scoring Erin St. Ledger. East Carolina would build on their 3-0 lead when Vanessa Moreno doubled home two more runs in Jessica Johnson and Paige Baggett.
"We were hitting the ball early and often," said head coach Tracey Kee. "The team continued to hit the ball and play well through the full five innings without letting up."
Charina Sumner continues to deliver for the Pirates in the lead-off role. For the second time in as many games, Sumner tripled in the Pirates first at-bat, while also adding her second home run of the season.
Keli Harrell, who has continued to be dominant for the Pirates, pitched the first two innings of the game before being replaced by Toni Paisley (2-2) Paisley picked up the second win of her career by finishing the last three innings. Harrell has not allowed an earned run in her last 22 innings of work.
Stacey Andrews first hit as a Pirate after transferring from Pitt Community College was a home run.
Paige Baggett has hit in all nine games this season for the Pirates and is currently riding a 14-game hit streak dating back to last season.
East Carolina (6-3) will play next in the Baymont Inn & Suites Pirate Classic at the ECU Softball Field beginning Friday, Feb. 23. The Pirates will face Towson, Appalachian State and St. John's.
