HOUSTON - Senior Kate Gordon finished third in the 200-yard butterfly to help ECU overtake Houston and finish third at 2007 Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Freshmen Krista Hanson and Jackie Jones both reached the finals of 200-yard breaststroke to help the Pirates improve from fourth to third place on the final day of competition.
After winning both the 1- and 3-meter springboard events and finishing third on the platform, Houston sophomore Anastasia Pozdniakova was honored as the C-USA Diver of the Meet.SMU's Petra Klosova was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Meet.
UH diving head coach Jane Figueiredo was named the C-USA Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive season, while SMU head coach Steve Collins was recognized as the C-USA Swimming Coach of the Year.
On the men's side, SMU's Ian Clark was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Year, while Hawai'i's Magnus Frick was recognized as the C-USA Diver of the Year.
SMU head coach Eddie Sinnott was named the C-USA Swimming Coach of the Year, and Hawai'i's Mike Brown was named the C-USA Diving Coach of the Year.
East Carolina scored 586 points to finish in third place. SMU won the women's championship for the second straight season, scoring 853 points. Rice finished second with 653.50 points, while Houston placed fourth with 586 points. Marshall came in fifth with 381.50 points.
SMU won the men's championship with 923 points, while Hawai'i finished second with 890 points. East Carolina placed third with 731 points.
