
Paisley Throws No-Hitter In Sweep Of UNCG

GREENVILLE, N.C. - After ECU took game one 2-1, Toni Paisley threw a no-hitter, while striking out eleven batters in a 3-0 win over UNCG. Paisley had previously thrown a perfect game against Binghamton on March 3.
In game one, Charina Sumner's solo home run to right field tied the game for the Pirates (24-8) in the fourth inning. ECU would take the lead in the sixth inning when Christina Merrida pinch-hit to lead off the inning and reached on a single. After Kaui Tom advanced Merrida to second on a sacrifice bunt, Sumner would move Merrida to third base with a single to center field. Jessica Johnson would add to her team-leading 26th RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Keli Harrell (13-4) started in the circle for the Pirates (24-8) and allowed one run on four hits in a complete game effort. She struck out eight Spartans, while not walking a batter.
In the night cap, Paisley walked the third batter of the game, while striking out the side in the first inning. She also hit a batter and a Spartan reached on an error. The first five out of six outs that were recorded for ECU were strikeouts.
East Carolina broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Joyce Roodenburg hit her second home run of the season to left field to lead off the inning. The Pirates would get two insurance runs in the sixth inning when Erin St. Ledger doubled home Paige Baggett, who led off with a single. Vanessa Moreno would get credited with the second RBI of the inning when she singled to center field to score pinch-runner Tiffany Shaw.
ECU will head to Huntington, W.Va. to play Marshall in a three-game series beginning Saturday at 1 pm.
