ATHENS, Ga. --- East Carolina junior Christie Icenhower became the first diver in school history to reach the finals of NCAA Regional Zone Championships over the weekend.
Icenhower placed 11th on the three-meter board, recording the highest finish among all divers competing from the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia on the three-meter board. She also placed 15th on the one-meter board, but was unable to advance to the national championship meet in either event.
It marked her third straight appearance in the regional championship.
"Christie has worked extremely hard to get to this point in her diving career," said coach Rich MacDonald. "I am so proud of her performance this weekend. This is one of the toughest regions in the country for diving."
Icenhower holds four ECU varsity diving records and is a three-time All-Conference USA performer.
