ECU Tied For Third Entering Final Round

ONEONTA, Ala. - The Memphis Tigers cut 13 strokes off their first-round performance and moved into the top spot at the 2007 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,161-yard Limestone Springs Golf Club. Memphis holds a three-stroke lead over second-place UTEP entering Wednesday's final round.
Carding back-to-back rounds of 68, UTEP senior Gerina Mendoza is the only golfer in the field of 44 to break par after 36 holes at 136 (-8) and holds a convincing lead. Memphis senior Stacey Tate was one-under today, but is even (144) entering the final round in second place.
Defending champion East Carolina and UCF enter Wednesday's 18 tied for third place in the team standings. ECU sophomore Lene Krog, who earned C-USA medalist honors in 2006, fired a 76 today but remained in fifth place. The Golden Knights were led today by sophomore Stephanie Connelly, who cut seven strokes off her first-round performance and has carded a 153 to tie for seventh place.
SMU dropped to fifth place, but only sits one stroke behind the Pirates and UCF. The Mustangs were again led by sophomore Kate Ackerson, who is in third place on the leaderboard with a four-over 148. Tulsa remained in sixth place after today's 18, with a two-over-par performance from junior Tara Goedeken.
Marshall, Southern Miss and UAB round out the nine-team field, respectively.
Six teams tee off for the final round beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, while Memphis, UTEP and UCF will start at 8:45 a.m. on the first tee. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Live scoring is available on www.conferenceusa.com.
