GREENVILLE, N.C. - A quartet of East Carolina women's golfers: Abby Bools (Hickory, N.C.), Jessica Hauser (Germantown, N.C.), Lene Krog (Leir, Norway) and Michelle Williams (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) have been named to the 2006-07 NCAA Division I All-American Scholar Team, announced today by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). Krog and Williams are two-time recipients, while Hauser has earned the honor three-times.
The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Bools also competed in ten events on the year collecting three top ten finishes and five top 20's. Her best finish came at the Lady Pirate Invitational where she claimed a share of sixth place (72-77-71=220) and was named C-USA Co-Golfer-of-the-Week. Bools also took home C-USA All-Freshman Team honors for her outstanding play.
Hauser, a communications major, participated in ten events on the year recording one top-10 finish. In her four-year career, she competed in 34 events with 16 top-20 finishes. Her career stroke average of 79.80 ranks eighth all-time in school history.
Krog, a business major, competed in 10 events for the Pirates this past season collecting six top five finishes, including the Pinehurst Invitational championship, and had seven top ten placements. She helped the Lady Pirates to a second place-finish in the Conference USA Championships and became the second ECU golfer to advance to the NCAA Championships as a individual. On the season, Krog has picked up numerous honors: All C-USA second-team, C-USA All-Tournament; All C-USA Academic; NCGA All-East Regional and was named C-USA Golfer-of-the-Week on March 17, 2007.
Williams, a bio-chemistry major, played in just three events recording a 79.75 stroke average. In her four years at ECU, she participated in 16 events with one top-20 finish, which came during the 2004-05 season at the Papa John's Intercollegiate (t-10th).
Off the links, the four golfers have been named to the ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll 22 times, earned the distinguished Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal seven times and were named to C-USA Honor Roll 11 times.
In the seven-year history of the Lady Pirates golf program, five golfers have been named NGCA All-American Scholars: Bools (2007), Hauser (2005-07), Krog (2006-07), Margaret Mitchell (2002-04) and Williams (2005 and 2007).
