CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Lindsey Ozimek tallied two assists to lead the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer to a 2-0 victory over East Carolina Sunday at Transamerica Field. With the win, Charlotte moves to 2-0-0 while East Carolina falls to 1-1-0.
The first goal of the contest came just over 10 minutes into the second half, as forward Whitney Weinraub headed in her first career goal off a dual assist from Ozimek and forward Nikki Dumencich. Less than eight minutes later, sophomore midfielder Hailey Beam received a pass from Ozimek to score her second goal of the season.
East Carolina, who fell 18-5 in shots, attempted to answer the 49ers' second goal with a late corner kick attempt that was swept away by Weinraub. Amber Campbell recorded seven saves on the afternoon while Charlotte's Lauren Brown tallied four.
"Charlotte has a very good team," head coach Rob Donnenwirth said. "We knew that coming in though. I thought we competed well in the first half. Charlotte does a good job of playing very good at set pieces. My only disappointment was that we didn't get ourselves back together after we got scored on. We need to learn to compete better when we are down by a goal. I hope that we can learn from this and prepare for Old Dominion."
The Pirates return to action this Friday, Sept. 7 as return to Bunting Field to take on Old Dominion at 4:00 p.m. ECU will remain at home on Sunday, Sept. 9 as the team hosts Furman at 1:00 p.m.
