
Swimming And Diving Teams Split Dual Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with UMBC Saturday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium. The Lady Pirates improved to 7-0 with a 168-138 win, while the men's team dropped to 6-2 with a 179-119 defeat.
Amanda Duncan, Alli Miller and Rebecca Perry each posted a pair of individual wins for the women's team. Duncan took home first place in the 100 (57.39) and 200 butterfly (2:06.54). Miller swept the backstroke events, finishing first in the 100 (59.75) and 200 (2:08.22), while Perry won both of the sprint freestyle events. She posted a time of 23.87 in the 50 and 51.62 in the 100.
Christie Icenhower completed a sweep of the diving events with scores of 245.78 on the one-meter board and 252.98 on the three-meter board.
Jackie Jones posted a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.76.
The Lady Pirates also won the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Roman Sandler was one of four Pirates to record a first place finish on the men's side. Sandler finished the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.92.
Jason Guzewich captured first place in the 50 free with a time of 21.88, while Thiago Cavalcanti won the 100 free by eight seconds with time of 9:45.63.
Ryan Hunt claimed first place honors on the one-meter board with a total score 263.55.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Guzewich, Charlie McCanless, Adam Papendick and Greg Neville also took home first place honors.
ECU returns to competition on Saturday, Jan. 26, against Duke. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Minges Natatorium.
