Campbell Earns C-USA Weekly Defensive Honor

IRVING, Texas - Senior goalkeeper Amber Campbell has been named Defensive Player-of-the-Week by Conference USA, according to an announcement by the league on Monday afternoon.
The selection marks the second for the Frederick, Md. native this season and third of her career. It is also the third weekly honor for the program in 2008 as senior defender Madison Keller garnered the first defensive accolade of the season in early September.
Campbell is unbeaten in her last eight games in goal with a 6-0-2 conference record. She earned her eighth shutout of the season, and 29th of her career, on Friday in a 0-0 decision against Colorado College. On Sunday, Campbell made six stops against UTEP to tie the school record for career saves (352) and was also credited with an assist in the 2-1 win over the Miners. Additionally, the senior owns the ECU career records for shutouts and goalkeeper minutes played. Campbell has allowed just one goal in her last two games and 200 minutes defending the Pirate net as well as a C-USA low 11 goals this season.
Erin Scott from Rice earned this week's C-USA offensive honor, leading Rice to a pair of important conference wins on the road. Scott scored both goals in a 2-1 double overtime win against UCF on Friday. The junior also scored and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 4-0 shutout victory at Southern Miss on Sunday.
With the 2-1 win over UTEP on Sunday, the Pirates clinched one of the eight spots reserved for the top eight finishers in the standings at the 2008 C-USA Tournament, hosted by Rice. East Carolina is the only program to have secured its spot as of today.
The Pirates play their final road C-USA contest of the season this Friday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on UAB. The match is scheduled for 8 p.m. at West Campus Field.
