GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's Abby Bools was named Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week for the second time in this year after claiming individual medalist honors at the 2008 Qdoba Invitational in Miami, Fla. league officials announced Wednesday.
The Hickory, N.C. native recorded her third top three finish, fourth top-10 and fifth top-20 placement in six tournaments when she won her second collegiate individual title after carding personal-best two-over-par 218.
Bools tied for the tournament lead in par-4 scoring, while ranking among the leaders in par-3 scoring, par-5 scoring and total pars (41). She became the third Lady Pirate golfer to record a pair of tournament titles in the same season joining former all-conference players Jessica Krasny (2002-03) and Adrienne Millican (2003-04).
Bools helped the Pirates (70-14-0), who are ranked No. 21 by the latest Golfweek poll, to its fourth consecutive team title and fifth this season in six events, extending its school record for championships in a season. The Pirates went wire-to-wire for the third consecutive event and carded a tournament score of 887, which ties for the third-best 54-hole score in school history.
This is the second weekly honor for Bools (Sept. 26), third of her career and the fifth time this season that a member of the Lady Pirate Golf Team has been named Golfer-of-the-Week (Emelie Lind/Oct. 17; Amber Littman/Oct. 31 and Nov. 8).
The Pirates will hit the links again on March 9, 2008 when they travel to Pinehurst, N.C. to participate in the Pinehurst Challenge.
