
Pirate Track And Field Successful at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--The East Carolina outdoor track and field squads continued their success from last weekend, as they tallied a pair of victories and 11 top five finishes at the Wake Forest Open. Also, ECU qualified for the NCAA Regionals in five events, four men's events and one women's event.
Camelia Morman's 2nd place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.43 earned her a provisional spot in the NCAA Regionals. Valeria Moore tied for second in the high jump (1.63m), while Meghan Horne finished 6th (1.58m). Danielle Eiler took home top ten finishes in both the shot put (9th, 12.71m) and the discus throw (5th, 42.91m). In the hammer throw, Charlene Grady's mark of 46.46m was good enough for 4th place. In the track events, the Pirates took home 10th place finishes, with Lindsay Dolan's 14.37 in the 100 meter hurdles and Aisha Bilal-Mack's 1:04.14 in the 400 meter hurdles.
For the men, Brandon Small won the 400 meter dash with a time of 46.71, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals. Christopher Richardson came in 10th in the 400 meter dash (48.45). Small added a 2nd place finish in the 200 meter dash, with his NCAA qualifying time of 21.14. Kevin Thompson came in 5th in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 21.25, also qualifying for the NCAA regionals. Isiah Gyasi earned an NCAA qualifying mark in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.47. Thompson came in 7th in the finals with a time of 10.79. Matt Dennish's time of 1:53.25 was good for 5th place in the 800 meter run while Jarrett Newby's time of 3:55.53 in the 1500 meter run was good for 4th place. Kris Bell took home 10th place honors in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.04. In the 400 meter hurdles, Mario Brisco's time of 53.74 earned him 4th place honors. The 4x100 meter relay squad won with a time of 40.72. Spencer Barrick improved his NCAA Regional qualifying mark, as he came in 6th with a mark of 65.13m.
"This is one of the best weekends that we have had on both sides of the program in along time," head coach Curt Kraft said. "Anytime you have regional qualifiers, people setting personal bests, as well as the whole team improving you can not ask for any more. I think the men and women are really feeling good about themselves at this point in the season, but as I have said before we a long way to go. I am very proud of both programs."
The ECU track and field teams return to action this coming weekend as they will take part in the Raleigh Relays March 28-29 hosted by North Carolina State University.
