Cotto To Run For Puerto Rico in Beijing

BEIJING, China - Former East Carolina track and field standout, Hector Cotto, has qualified to run for Puerto Rico in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The Fajardo, Puerto Rico native will participate in the 110-meter hurdles, which is scheduled for the track and field event window from Aug. 14-24.
Cotto qualified for the Olympics by turning in an A-Standard qualifying time of 13.55 at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Cali, Columbia. He is one of 22 athletes representing Puerto Rico at the Games.
While at East Carolina, Cotto earned a place in the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships after a third-place finish in the NCAA East Regional 110-meter hurdles event. His 13.66 mark is the school record, topping his previous best a year earlier. Additionally, Cotto earned All-Conference USA honors at the 2005 Outdoor Championships in both the 55 and 60-meter hurdles events, while notching six NCAA qualifying standards for the 110-meter hurdles.
