GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina sophomore soccer player Amanda Malkiewicz was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team, according to an announcement by CoSIDA Friday. Malkiewicz was one of just eight sophomores within the district to be selected to the first, second or third teams.
The Forked River, N.J., native boasts a 3.90 grade-point average as a math education major. During her freshman year, Malkiewicz was an East Carolina Chancellor’s List selection one semester and Dean’s List honoree in the other. She received a Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and was also on the league’s academic honor roll in 2008.
On the field this season, Malkiewicz’ 16 points lead the team and are tied for ninth in C-USA. She has collected eight points in league games to also lead the squad. Her six goals this season are a career high, as well as being the second most on the team and tied for ninth in the conference. Included in the six scores are game-winners against UNC Wilmington, Rice and Marshall. Malkiewicz has also chipped in with four assists, one off the team lead.
In addition to her all-district honor, Malkiewicz can earn Conference USA All-Academic Team selection when those groups are announced next week.
