IRVING, Texas - East Carolina sophomore soccer players Amanda Malkiewicz and Jessica Woodward were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Teams, according to an announcement from the league office Wednesday afternoon. Malkiewicz earned first team designation while Woodward was a second team selection. The two were the only sophomores placed on either squad.
Malkiewicz boasts a 3.90 grade-point average as a math education major. During her freshman year, she was an East Carolina Chancellor's List selection one semester and Dean's List honoree in the other. She received a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and was also on the league's academic honor roll in 2008.
On the field this season, Malkiewicz' 16 points led the team and are tied for ninth in C-USA. She collected eight points in league games to also pace the squad. Her six goals this season were a career high, as well as being the second most on the team and tied for ninth in the conference. Included in the six scores were game winners against UNC Wilmington, Rice and Marshall. Malkiewicz also chipped in with four assists, one off the team lead.
Woodward, an elementary education major and speech pathology minor, has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA. In 2008, she was a two-time ECU Chancellor's List selection, a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and a C-USA Academic Honor Roll member.
Woodward started all 19 games this season, scoring twice and adding an assist. Her two goals were against Stony Brook and in-state rival UNC Wilmington. In last Friday's season finale at Marshall, she assisted on Malkiewicz' game-winning goal. In league action, she took 10 shots with three on goal.
