
Pirates In 12th After First Round Play

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The East Carolina women's golf team opened up spring play Monday at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge posting a first round score of 326 and currently sit in 12th place. The tournament is being played at the par-71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.
On a cold, wet and windy day in Southern California, junior Ana Maria Puche led the Pirates (52-14-2) on the course with a nine over par 80 (41-39) and is tied for 27th. The Barranquilla, Colombia native registered her lone birdie of the afternoon on hole No. 12 while posting seven pars.
Colleen Estes is tied for 36th after a first round score of 81 (41-40), while Abby Bools is tied for 45th (41-41=82). Rounding out the Pirates roster is sophomore Amber Littman (45-38) and Amy Otteson (40-43) who are tied for 54th.
Arizona State leads the event with an opening score of 305 (+21) with Southern California sitting eight strokes back at 313. UCLA (314) is third, while Wake Forest (315) and Michigan State (316) close out the top five.
Second round action will continue Tuesday when the Pirates tee off at 10:30 a.m. Live results can be found on ww.Golfstat.com.
