IRVING, Texas – For the second-consecutive week and fourth time this season, East Carolina redshirt sophomore Toni Paisley has been named the Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week, according to an announcement Monday by league officials. Paisley picked up three wins and allowed just two runs while leading the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 record. The weekly honor is the fifth of Paisley’s career.
Paisley started her week throwing 10 innings against N.C. State, allowing just three hits and striking out 11 in ECU’s 5-0, 10-inning victory. The shutout was the 15th of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth on the school’s career chart. She had a perfect game through seven innings before giving up a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth, as her performance allowed the Pirates to record just their second-ever victory over the in-state rival Wolfpack. Outside of the circle, Paisley helped herself by driving in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th.
Over the weekend, Paisley earned two victories over UAB as East Carolina swept the three-game road series. She went eight innings in the first game, allowing three hits and a solo home run before wrapping up her week with a Sunday win, striking out 10 and surrendering four hits.
During her three games of work Paisley struck out the side in order twice and had at least two strikeouts in an inning seven times. She also allowed more than one hit in an inning only twice and gave up just two walks over her 25 innings.
Next on the slate for the Pirates is the end of their nine-game road trip with Wednesday’s doubleheader at UNC Wilmington. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
