IRVING, Texas - East Carolina redshirt sophomore Toni Paisley has been named the Conference USA Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week, according to an announcement Monday by league officials. It is Paisley's sixth award this season and fourth in the last five weeks. She posted a 2-1 record during her three appearances last week as she shutout UTEP twice and suffered the loss to No. 14 North Carolina.
The six weekly honors set an East Carolina record and put Paisley in a tie with Houston's Angel Shamblin and DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard for the second-most in a single season in C-USA history. Courtney Blades of Southern Miss owns the record for most weekly awards in a season with the seven she picked up in 2000.
Against UTEP last weekend, Paisley surrendered just eight hits and two walks while not allowing a run. In the opener, she struck out 13 batters and fanned two hitters in every inning except the seventh. The 13 strikeouts were two shy of her career high and the second-most she has recorded in a single game this season. Paisley came back on Sunday and struck out 10 more Miners while allowing only five hits. The pair of shutouts gave her 20 in her career, the fifth-most in ECU history.
In her mid-week appearance against No. 14 North Carolina, Paisley held the Tar Heels scoreless through the first five innings before surrendering one run in the sixth and one in the seventh. Paisley shares this week's award with Tulsa's Jackie Lawrence, who picked up two wins and a save in her three appearances.
Paisley and the Pirates will look to stretch their winning streak to four games on Wednesday when they host rival N.C. State for a single game at 5 p.m.
