April 11, 2026 | Softball
Denton, Texas – The East Carolina softball team concluded its American Conference series with North Texas on Saturday, falling 4-3 in game one before bouncing back to defeat the Mean Green, 8-2, in a doubleheader at Lovelace Stadium.
Game One: North Texas 4, East Carolina 3
Trinity Nichols went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and Anna Sawyer hit a home run for the second straight game but East Carolina fell to North Texas, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.
The Pirates (24-20, 8-9 American) struck first as Nichols' RBI double scored Sawyer in the top of the first. ECU added another run on a sac fly from Gabby Fowler in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
North Texas tacked on three runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game and added another in the bottom of the fourth to extend its lead to 4-2.Â
ECU had a chance to cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth with bases loaded and two outs but the Pirates stranded all three runners. Sawyer gave ECU some life with her second home run of the series in the top of the sixth but ECU was unable to get the game-tying or go-ahead run across home plate in the final inning.
Sydney Rainford (6-9) took the loss in the circle while Britney Lewinski (12-9) picked up the win and Anneca Anderson earned her second save.
Game Two: East Carolina 8, North Texas 2
Anna Sawyer and Addison Lund both recorded two hits and two RBI as East Carolina defeated North Texas, 8-2, in the series finale on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium.
Julia Apostolakos (13-8) was dominant in the circle for most of the game for the Pirates (25-20, 9-9 American), allowing just two hits and two runs, the latter of which came on Madison Conley's home run in the bottom of the sixth to avoid the run rule.
Lillian Martineau and Kanisha Anderson also had multi-hit games and Chloe Geijer and Alexis Morgan both added an RBI single.
Just like in the previous game, the Pirates struck early and first, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning to take the momentum.
After giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the first inning, Apostolakos and the ECU defense buckled down, not allowing a hit or run until Conley's blast in the sixth inning when the game was already out of reach.
