GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina begins its four-game homestand on Tuesday evening when the Pirates welcome North Carolina to Max R. Joyner Family Stadium for the first time since 2019.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Patrick Johnson (play-by-play) and Courtney Layton (analyst) on the call.
ECU comes off of a 1-3 week that saw the Pirates fall in extra innings at home to NC State and drop its first two games at North Texas before bouncing back to blow out the Mean Green in the series finale, 8-2. Kanisha Anderson (.389) leads the Pirates' offense with 58 hits and has recorded a hit in 19 straight games while Trinity Nichols (.336) and Anna Sawyer (.326) are also batting above .300. Sawyer hit above .500 in the North Texas series, including a three-hit games and recorded two home runs against the Mean Green. Julia Apostolakos (3.21 ERA, 79 Ks) and Sydney Rainford (3.40 ERA, 47 Ks) lead the way in the circle for ECU.
Scouting the Tar Heels
The Tar Heels' high-powered offense which is top five nationally in batting average (.368) and in home runs (90) is led by Sanaa Thompson (.487 BA, 13 HR), Emily LeGette (.487 BA, 22 HR) and Lexie Roberts (.411 BA). UNC has five players that have hit 10 or more home runs this season. Kendall Frost (76.0 IP, 4.61 ERA), Carly Maxton (69.2 IP, 4.22 ERA and Kenna Raye Dark (52.2 IP, 4.12 ERA) are the main arms in the circle for North Carolina.
