GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will invade Houston, Texas this weekend for a pair of Conference USA matches when they face Houston on Oct. 15 and Rice on Oct. 17.
Both ECU and Houston enter this weekend's action with 0-1-1 records on their most recent road trips. The Pirates lost a hard fought match Friday at Memphis, 2-0 and picked up a point in the league standings with a 1-1 tie against UAB. Amanda Malkiewicz netted the Pirates lone goal of the weekend, her fifth of the year, when she scored in the 22nd minute of the first period on a put back.
The Cougars lost a close match Friday to No. 19 UCF 1-2. Houston was able to get a draw on the road at Southern Miss on Sunday when Kaci Bush scored her first career goal off a corner kick to earn the point for Houston.
After three weekends of C-USA play, Rice is all alone at the top of the league standings with 5-0-1 C-USA ledger. The Owls are to their best conference start in school history, has already surpassed its conference win total from 2009 (4), and is just one victory away from matching its highest C-USA win total in a single-season (6 set in 2005 and again in 2008). The highest the Blue & Gray has ever finished in the C-USA standings is tied for third (2005). The Owls twice tied for second as members of the Western Athletic Conference from 2001 to 2004.
