Lichtner Takes Event Title At Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A small group of East Carolina track and field athletes ventured to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the Carolina Classic at the Eddie Smith Fieldhouse this past weekend. However, day two of the event was cancelled due to snow and ice.
Samantha Lichtner picked up the title of the 1000-meter event with a career-best time of 2:57.29. Amanda Lapp also fared well in the event, turning in a fourth-place result and clocking in at 3:04.63. As the Pirates' lone field participant, Cameila Morman took fifth in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.74
For the men, Isiah Gyasi produced a solid 6.88 in the prelims of the 60-meter dash to qualify for the finals, where he captured sixth and ran a 6.90. In the 60-meter hurdles, Joseph Samuels then finished 15th in the prelims with a time of 8.68 while Miles Coats reached 14.37 meters in the triple jump.
Samuels also began competition in the heptathlon, but the event was cut short when the weather deteriorated in the area.
ECU travels to State College, Pa. for its next event, the Sykes-Sabock Cup hosted by Penn State University. The meet is slated for Feb. 5-6 at the Ashenfelter Track.
