Pirates In Paradise - Day 1
Aloha Pirate Nation,
Day four here in Hawai’i and the weather is gorgeous with the temperature sitting just under 80 and a slight breeze. Due to today’s two games, the team did not get much free time. The players woke up, ate breakfast, got ready for the games and loaded into our sport utilities to head to the field.
With the lull in adventures around the island, I took some time to catch up with seniors Charina Sumner, Cristen Aona and Kaui Tom to get their thoughts on the trip home and facing Hawai’i tonight.
Sumner Home Again
“This whole week has been great. It has been such a thrill to have so many extended family members here to watch us. Many have not been able to make the trip to Greenville to see us, so it’s neat that we get to come to them. The sunshine and beautiful weather here has not hurt, either.
“I’m really excited about playing UH tonight. I know a lot of the girls through travel and high school softball and am really looking forward to playing them.
“Growing up, I watched a lot of Hawai’i softball games on TV and came to the park to watch the team play. Now I’ll have the opportunity to play in that same stadium. Hopefully the atmosphere tonight will be friendly, but of course it will be intense and maybe a little heated at times. It’s all for fun, but we really want to win.
“We’ve played lots of ranked teams this season (Washington, Florida and Georgia Tech), but this is the game we have had circled on the calendar. We know Hawai’i usually has a good team, so this will be a big test for us.”
Aona And Tom On Playing Hawai'i
Aona and Tom also had strong thoughts on tonight’s game. Aona explained it as, “This is the game I have pretty much been waiting for since my freshman year.” Clearly the excitement for this contest has been building for quite some time.
To give people more of an idea about what it means to play the Rainbow Wahine tonight, Tom explained it as, “People from North Carolina get really excited to play the University of North Carolina. It’s that same kind of importance and excitement for us playing Hawai’i here tonight.”
Live stats will be offered for tonight's game against UH, so click here to follow along with the action.
