
Men's Tennis Falls at Wilmington,6-1

Wilmington, N.C. - Nationally-ranked UNC Wilmington swept the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches to down East Carolina 6-1, in men’s tennis action Sunday.
The Seahawks, ranked 73rd in the country, improved to 14-5 overall with the victory at the UNCW Courts while ECU dropped to 18-6.
UNC Wilmington secured the doubles point following victories at No. 1 and No. 2. The Seahawks’ tandem of Kinshuk Sharma and Chris Cooprider along with Michael Pereira and Ryan Ybarra recorded identical 8-1 scores over Massimo Mannino/Jaroslav Horvath and Bryan Oakley/Stephen Whitwell, respectively.
UNCW continued strong by claiming the first five singles matches and the team win. Pereira led off with the 6-1, 6-1 victory over Whitwell at No. 1 while Kosta Blank handled Henrik Skalmerud 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 to push Wilmington’s lead to 3-0. Sharma claimed the team win with the 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Horvath at the No. 2 position.
At No.5, Illia Ziamtsou held off John Schmitt 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 and Cooprider defeated Oakley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to recorded the last two Seahawk singles victories.
Mannino picked up the lone win for ECU by defeating Ryan Ybarra (0-6, 7-5, 1-0 at No. 3.
The Pirates will complete regular season competition next Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Elon.
