GREENVILLE, N.C. - A pair of victories over UTEP (26-16, 8-6 C-USA) Saturday allows East Carolina (27-14, 8-3 C-USA) to go for a sweep of the three-game series Sunday starting at 12:00 p.m. The results of Saturday's other Conference USA contests put the Pirates in a first-place tie with Tulsa heading into Sunday.
Kee Gets 600 And 601 ...
In her 14th year as East Carolina’s head coach, Tracey Kee won the 600th and 601st games of her career yesterday. Kee’s teams have won 40 or more games in five of the past six, and 10 of the past 13, seasons, and have tallied at least 50 in four of her years as head coach.
With the victories, she became one of 45 active NCAA Division I coaches to reach the 600-win plateau. Kee began the 2010 campaign ranked 31st among Division I active coaches in winning percentage at .660.
Offensive Numbers Increase ...
Already in 2010, the Pirates have 42 doubles, nine triples and 25 home runs. In all of last season, East Carolina produced 46 doubles, eight triples and 21 long balls.
Driving In Double ...
Five times this season the Pirates have single game double-digit RBI totals. Entering 2010, the last time ECU had a contest with double-digit runs batted in was when it drove in 10 April 26, 2008, at Memphis. The Pirates had not had five or more 10+ RBI games since the 2005 campaign, when they had six.
Dominate The State ...
Wednesday’s two wins at N.C. State continued the Pirates domination of in-state competition in 2010. They have gone 7-0 while outscoring Campbell, N.C. Central, UNC Greensboro and the Wolfpack 52-6.
Two-Out Magic ...
ECU has scored 179 runs this season, 67 when there are two outs. That amounts to 37.4 percent of the team’s total. In Wednesday’s opener at N.C. State, ECU scored the game’s only run in the eighth inning with a two-out single.
