Pirates In Second At C-USA Championships

Hattiesburg, Miss. - East Carolina shot a second round four-over par 288 and is currently in second place with 18 holes remaining at the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships. The 54-hole event is being played at the par-71, 6,146-yard Canebrake Country Club.
Senior Abby Bools (141) led the way for the Pirates (92-63-1) with a two-under par 69, the second-lowest round of her career, which included a two-under front nine 34 and an even par back nine of 35.
Amber Littman (148) rebounded from an opening round 77 to post an even-par 71 and is tied for 12th place. Amy Otteson (149) is tied for 15th, while Colleen Estes (149) is tied for 18th and Ana Maria Puche (151) holds a share of 19th.
Championship leader Tulane shot a one-under par 283 to set a new C-USA Championship low-round. The 27th-ranked Green Wave were led by Ashley McKenney who fired a 3-under-par 68 which ties for the lowest round in conference championship history.
McKenney and Linn Gustafsson both fired in red figures at the 6,146-yard, par-71 course for Tulane. McKenny is currently 4-under par (70-68-138) for the tournament and built a three-shot lead heading into the final 18 holes of competition. Gustafsson's 1-under-par 70 pushed her into a tie for fifth place.
The Memphis Tigers are in third place with a team total of 593 (295-298). Alex Alang posted a 73 in second-round action and is in a tie for fifth place (72-73--145). SMU shot a 291 in round two and currently owns a share of fourth place with Tulsa at 597.
UTEP tallied a 302 (300-302--602) and is in sixth place, while Marshall shaved 11 strokes off its first-round total to take seventh-place honors (309-298--607). Southern Miss (610), UCF (611) and UAB (642) round out the remaining conference schools.
Final round action begins at 9 a.m. (EDT), on Tuesday with live scoring available on www.ConferneceUSA.com. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
