Butts Nets All-America Honors In Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Tynita Butts added to her list of honors in 2010 Wednesday, picking up All-America status in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
Butts cleared 1.76 meters to finish in a three-way tie for seventh-place. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America accolades. She just missed out on the honor at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this year in the same event.
"We are extremely excited for and proud of Tynita," head coach Curt Kraft said. "This is a fantastic honor for her and the program and it is just the latest positive in a season full of them. I think this is just a sign of many good things to come for ECU track and field."
The freshman is the first female All-America honoree since Michelle Clayton in 1999.
Fellow rookie Matthew McConaughey has his chance to rank among the nation's elite when he participates in the javelin at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. Butts returns to action Saturday, the last day of the meet, with the long jump.
