GREENVILLE, N.C. - On the heels of its first win of the 2010 season, the East Carolina women's soccer team turns its focus to Friday night's match against the 10th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (EST) at the North Campus Recreation Complex.
Both squads enter the contest with a 1-1 record and dropped an opening weekend match to UNC Greensboro. The Pirates rebounded from a 2-0 loss to the Spartans to capture their home opener against Francis Marion, 4-1, on Sunday.
Caty Butler, Amanda Malkiewicz, Chrissy Gratz and Bailey Wilcox each netted goals for the Pirates against the Patriots, while Jessica Cunningham and Amanda Windsor dished out assists. Redshirt freshman Christiane Cordero, who made her collegiate debut in goal in the season opener at UNCG, has allowed three goals and logged four saves in 166 minutes in goal and boasts a 1-1-0 record.
Wake Forest started the season with a 4-0 win on the road at UNC Wilmington before dropping its home opener to UNCG 2-1. Rachel Nuzzolese leads the nationally-ranked Demon Deacons with five points after netting a goal in each of the first two games and adding an assist against the Seahawks. Fellow classmate Katie Stengel is second on the squad with three points after scoring a goal and dulling out an assist against UNCW. Goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe has surrendered a pair of goals in two starts, while recording seven saves in 180 minutes and enters the game with a 1-1-0 career record.
Friday's match will be ECU's first-ever home game under lights and will mark the seventh game against Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons own a perfect 6-0-0 slate against the Pirates, including a 2-0-0 ledger in Greenville.
