GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team picked up its fourth win of the season and third in a row after topping in-state rival N.C. State, 1-0, at the North Campus Recreation Complex. Sophomore Chrissy Gratz netted her third game-winning goal of the season off a center pass from Amanda Malkiewicz inside the back from five yards out, her second assist of the year on a game-winner.
ECU will be back on the pitch Thursday, Sept. 16 when they travel to face former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for UNC Wilmington. The Pirates will play their next four matches on the road before returning home on Friday, Oct. 1 against SMU.

Chrissy Gratz, Forward, Sophomore
Gratz netted her third game-winning goal of the season when she scored in the 62nd minute against N.C. State helping the Pirates to a 1-0 win, which extended ECU's current win streak to three games ... The goal, also her third on the season, ties her for second in Conference USA with three GWG's ... The Sunrise, Fla. native also recorded game-winning goals against Francis Marion (8/22) and ODU (9/3) ... She leads the Pirates in goals (3), points (7), shots (16), SOG (6) and GWG (3).
Pirate Defensive Player-of-the-Week
Amanda Broz, Defensive Back, Senior
Broz helped the Pirates record their first shutout of the season Friday when they topped in-state rival N.C. State, 1-0 ... Broz recorded one blocked shot and held N.C. State's leading scorer Kara Blosser scoreless in the match on four shots ... The senior defender, who started her 14th-straight game, has taken two shots and scored her first goal of the season against ODU (9/3).
PIRATE NOTES:
Friday Night Lights At Home:
ECU posted its first home win under the lights last week when they topped N.C. State, 1-0 ... It was the second ever home game under the lights both coming against ACC members (Wake Forest - L, 2-1).
Win Streak At Three Games:
With its 1-0 win over N.C. State on Sept. 10, ECU extended its current winning streak to three games (ODU, Niagara and N.C. State) and improved to 4-2 on the season ... During the streak, the Pirates have scored six goals while allowing three ... In all the Pirates have outscored their opponents to 11-8 on the year.
Spreading The Love:
Eight different players have netted goals on the season with Chrissy Gratz leading the way with three scores ... Amana Malkiewicz has two goals and lead the squad with a pair of assists for a total of six points, which ranks second by Gratz seven points ... The Pirates have dished out eight assists on their 11 goals, seven coming from different players.
Gratz Has Three Game-Winning Goals:
Sophomore Chrissy Gratz has three game-winning goals (Francis Marion, ODU and N.C. State) on the season, which is currently tied for second in Conference USA ... Gratz also ranks among the league leaders in goals (t-4th), goals per game (t-6th), points (t-9th) and points per game (t-10th).
Cordero Records First Career Shutout:
Christiane Cordero recorded her first career shutout against in-state rival N.C. State over the weekend ... The redshirt freshman logged a career-best 11 saves in 90-minutes of work in the net and improved her overall record in goal to 4-2-0 ... Currently Cordero is tied for second in saves (26) and is tied for third in saves per game (4.33 pg).
First Career Starts:
Christiane Cordero (GK) and Kimmy Cummings (F) recorded their first career starts in the season opener against UNC Greensboro ... Cordero allowed two goals in 90-minutes of action in the box, while Cummings logged 53 minutes at the forward position.
Collegiate Debuts:
Through six games on the young season, six Pirates have made their collegiate debuts ... Cordero experienced action in the season opener posting her first collegiate start, while Brittany Batts (MF/1 G), Ashley James (F/3 G's), Katlin Povich (F/MF/1 G), Amanda Reynolds (D/MF/ 5 G's) and Anne Workman (MF/D/ 1 G) got on the field against Francis Marion in the home opener.
Streaks Extended:
Four Pirates extended their current starting streaks against N.C. State on Friday ... Junior's Amanda Malkiewicz and Jessica Woodward pushed their consecutive starting streaks to 47 games, while Preseason All-Conference USA selection Bailey Wilcox extended hers to 25-straight matches dating back to the start of the 2009 campaign ... Two other players currently have streaks in double-digits heading into this week's action (Amanda Broz/ 14 and Candace Mowery/13) ... Stephanie Shaw's streak was snapped at 12 games vs. WFU.
