GREENVILLE, N.C. - Seven days after its last soccer match, East Carolina returns to the pitch Friday night to face former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. at the ODU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
ECU enters the game with a 1-2 record suffering setbacks at UNC Greensboro, 2-0, and against No. 10 Wake Forest, 2-1, at home. Its lone win was against Francis Marion at the North Campus Recreation Complex, 4-1. Trailing 2-0 to the Deacons last week, Kimmy Cummings scored on a touch pass from Hali Oughton off Trisha Tufts corner kick to pull within one, 2-1, in the 76th minute. The Pirates had a chance for the equalizer two-minutes later when Chrissy Gratz got past the Deacon defense and unleashed a shot but Aubrey Bledsoe was able to deflect it wide right of the goal.
After a scoreless tie against Syracuse in the opener, ODU (1-0-1) responded with a resounding four goals in the win over VMI. Jocelyn Weidner led the attack with two goals and an assist. Amber Cook got ODU on the board when she headed in a corner kick from Rachael Carroll. The goal was the first of her career. After VMI scored to make the score 2-1, Kirstin Walker got a pass from Weidner and fired a shot past the VMI keeper to give ODU a two-goal cushion.
The Pirates have won the last two meetings in the series walking away with a pair of 1-0 victories, while ODU's last win came in the 2006 season opener in Norfolk, Va.
