Amy Otteson Takes Second At Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior Amy Otteson carded a personal-best 3-under par 213 to finish tied for second at the 2011 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate earning All-Tournament Team honors Tuesday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was being held at the par-72, 6,056-yard Greenville Country Club.
Otteson capped off her career-best event with a one-over par 73 posting nine pars and four birdies. It was her third top 20 finish of the season and 19th of her career. Teammate Fanny Wolte (222) posted a 3-over 75 on the day and claimed a share of 15th place for her for her third top 15 placement of the year and 10th of her young career.
Old Dominion's Samantha Morrell took home medalist honors with a 4-under 212 (71-70-71), which is tied for the third-lowest all-time score in the tournament history. A year ago, Morrell earned all-tournament honors finishing tied for third. Joining Morrell and Otteson on the all-tournament squad were Laverry Kumar (UNCW), Juliet Vongphaumy (Maryland) and Laura Wearn (Furman) at 3-under par.
The Pirates (40-3) entered the final nine holes with a two-shot lead, but after dropping nearly six strokes on the 11th and 12th holes, they fell to fourth place and just couldn't catch tournament winner Maryland, who posted a 15-over par 879. Georgia State (882) finished three strokes behind the Terps and five ahead of the Pirates (887). UNC Greensboro (890) claimed fourth while UNC Wilmington (898) took home fifth.
Rounding out the Pirates squad were senior Julia Strandberg (226/t-28th), freshman Katie Kirk (227/t-35th) and junior Faith Hardison (234/t-62nd). Playing as individuals for ECU were freshmen Emily Eng (235/t-66th) and Devan Murphy (267/103rd).
ECU will be back in action on Oct. 24 when they travel west to Boulder City, Nev. to participate in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
